The Fayette Academy Ecology Club is a close knit group of high schoolers who recognize the energy challenge the world is facing. In a society where the environment is often forgotten, we strive to educate families, school, and community what it means to be an environmental steward. EThenergy is everywhere!  It is all around us.  During the last twelve months we made APPs,  established a new recycling program,  worked with our School Board to save trees, participated in five community festivals, and for the first time in history,  a Tennessee school sent a student project into space! We continued to maintain our outdoor classroom and habitats for bats that reduce pesticide run off in our water ways. We created an outdoor educational display, wrote a children’s book, mentored the young, and purchased 75 new recycle bins that increased collection by 10% to 1.8 tons.  We have presented our programs at state conferences and were highlighted in the March issue of  the Tennessee Conservation magazine. We use creative, fun, hands-on activities to promote energy education and conservation and have learned valuable leadership and team-building skills along the way. 

 

We have reached millions with our indirect PR campaign and thousands directly. We mentored the young, and established an annual community-wide event by mayor proclamation.  Our school has conducted 33 energy lessons in grades 5-12.  All three sponsors attended TDEC Teacher Energy Camp and are set to return to energy camp this summer. We have received numerous state and national recognitions for our efforts. One of our sponsor’s was named the 2015 National Science Teachers’ Association Aerospace Educator of the Year and had a state proclamation read on the floor of the Tennessee House of Representatives recognizing her accomplishments with the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program. We made a difference. Energy in Earth’s systems is Everywhere!

We attend an annual retreat at Land Between the Lakes where Richard and Patrick take good care of us and provide valuable training that helps our team bond together.  We are excited about returing to Brandon Springs Environmental Learning Center this fall.
